 The Board of Supervisors are elected to represent the five (5) Supervisorial Districts and are the legislative body for the County. The Board of Supervisors appoints members of the public to serve on a variety of advisory committees and commissions, including the Overall Economic
Development and Planning Commissions. The County Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the County.

Economic Development Assistance

 In March 2003, the County Board of Supervisors endorsed the cluster development approach to economic development and diversification in the County. The Office of Economic Development (OED) and the Monterey County Business Council (MCBC) are spearheading this effort. The first three clusters targeted for development are: agriculture and agricultural services; education and research; and tourism. Additional clusters will be added to the list in the future. Permit / License / Zoning Information

 The Monterey County Permit Assistance Center will provide you with assistance to successfully start your business. This multi-departmental facility provides information, appointment and walk-in services to developers, investors and contractors.
Currently, the Center is open to the public two days per week. Service levels are being reviewed with the possibility of a future expansion of hours. Customer service improvements have included the preparation of informational brochures and ongoing dialogues with the Monterey Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula Builders Exchanges.

Down payment assistance in the form of a second mortgage with deferred interest and principal on amounts up to $35,000. Loans are only available for home owners who live in the unincorporated areas of the county and whose income is below 80% of county median.
