The City of Soledad is located in southern Monterey County approximately 330 miles north of Los Angeles, and 130 miles south of San Francisco in the center of the Salinas Valley. The City is also 25 miles south of Salinas and 20 miles north of King City.

The City is a General Law City incorporated in March 1921 with a City Council/City Manager form of government. The five member City Council is elected at-large. The Council elects the Mayor. Regular meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM. The Mayor appoints the City’s five member Planning Commission with concurrence of the City Council. Daily operations are administered by the City Manager.
