Location



Pacific Grove is located on the Central California Coast, 120 miles south of San Francisco, and 335 miles north of Los Angeles on the Monterey Peninsula, between the City of Monterey and Pebble Beach.

Pacific Grove was founded in 1875 as a Methodist Church summer retreat. Today the economy of this residential community is based on tourism and local services. Beautiful Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds are located in Pacific Grove and the world renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium is located in Pacific Grove and Monterey.

Government



Pacific Grove has a Council-Manager form of government. The seven-member City Council consists of a mayor, who is directly elected for a two-year term, and six council members, who are elected at-large for a term of four years. The City Council appoints the City Manager who is the administrative head of the municipal government.

Permit / License / Zoning Information



Pacific Grove welcomes new businesses to the community. Before commencing, the city recommends that you contact their Community Development Department at 300 16th Street, (831) 648-3190. The Department will provide business owners with a checklist and assist with other departments, agencies and permits.

The current Business License tax rate is one mill (0.001) for your estimated annual gross receipts ($1.00 per $1,000 of gross receipts), with a minimum annual tax of $15.00 and a maximum annual tax of $3,000.
