Economic Sustainability Program



The Monterey County Business Council has contracted with the Monterey County Workforce Investment Board to implement the Economic Sustainability Program to provide a range of coordinated resources to help sustain businesses and to retain "at risk" jobs in Monterey County. The Program is eligible to all Monterey County businesses. To determine if you are eligible, please contact the Council's office at 831-883-9443 x16, or download and fill out the form below and e-mail it to info@mcbc.biz or fax to 831-648-0458. If you are not looking at layoffs, we can still refer you to an array of services that may be beneficial to your business. Call the Council and find out what resources are available to assist you in your business success.

Central Coast Small Business Development Center (CCSBDC) at Cabrillo College: www.centralcoastsbdc.org
   The Central Coast Small Business Development Center at Cabrillo College offers a wide variety of services for present and potential small business owners. All counseling services are confidential and free of charge. The Center primarily serves the Monterey Peninsula businesses. The Center assists struggling businesses to retain employees, develop new small businesses, help businesses expand and develop, promote minority and women-owned business and create jobs.

CSU Monterey Bay Small Business Development Center (CSUMB-SBDC):
   The CSU Monterey Bay Small Business Development Center is located in Gonzales and serves Salinas Valley and South county businesses. The Center offers a wide variety of services for present and potential small business owners. All counseling services are confidential and free of charge. The Center promotes the development and growth of small business to excel in today's diverse, global economy. The Center will assists small business owners with research, writing business or marketing plans, developing cash flow projections, financial analysis, and administrative reception support.

   The Center's mission is to coordinate and provide access to a variety of services for employers, entrepreneurs, and job seekers. They offer many opportunities and services to both employed, under-employed, and unemployed workers. The following agencies are partners in the Center:
  • Workforce Investment Board (WIB): www.montereycountywib.org
       The Monterey County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is responsible for providing oversight and developing strategic policy for the utilization of Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds in Monterey County. The WIB is a business-led legislative body, appointed by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. The WIB, whose composition is defined by the WIA, includes individuals representing business leaders, local educational entities, community-based organizations, economic development agencies, One-Stop partners, and labor organizations. The WIB serves as a catalyst to integrate all private and public partners to effectively educate, train and place individuals with the necessary resources and skills to fulfill employer needs. They offer a dynamic and comprehensive workforce investment system through our One-Stop Career Center system.

  • Office for Employment & Training:
       A division of the Monterey County Department of Social and Employment Services, the Office for Employment & Training's mission is to promote the social and economic self-reliance of each individual and family we serve through employment services, temporary financial assistance, social support services, protective services to children and adults at risk, and partnership with the community to develop and support social change, highlighting personal responsibility and self-sufficiency.

  • Employment Development Department: www.caljobs.ca.gov
       The California Employment Development Department (EDD) is one of the largest state departments with employees at hundreds of service locations throughout the state. For more than 70 years, they have connected millions of job seekers and employers in an effort to build the economy of the Golden State.

    Their web site is your link to: an online job and résumé bank, CalJOBSSM, which contains thousands of job openings and the largest pool of candidates in the state, labor market tools designed to help you make educated decisions; information on filing an Unemployment Insurance, Disability Insurance, or Paid Family Leave claim; payroll tax information and forms; and an array of employment and training services.
